Battle of Britain Day, 9/15

War is no good. Anyone who's ever been in one will tell you that. Yet sometimes a fight is just, the right time to draw the line, and here was one of those times.

Tell me that the British were often greedy conquerors in their history, and I will completely understand.

But don't tell me, at this very point in their history, at a point where the very definition of civilization itself was at stake, that this was not a just fight.

An Irishman, of all people, once pounded his fist on his table, and said it to me like it was:

"If it wasn't for them, those young fellows in their Hurricanes and Spitfires, you'd be speaking German right now. You'd be goosestepping and yelling 'Heil Hitler!' right now. You'd have none of the freedoms and luxuries you now use to be so pompous and righteous, to tell us all how more enlightened you are. You know what? Your privileges come from them. Start using them right."

September 15 is Battle of Britain Day, the day the tide turned.

"Never was so much owed by so many to so few."
