Reproach in misfortune is an unseasonable cruelty.
Your mileage may vary, but having my nose rubbed in it always made me feel shame, but very rarely helped me to become any better. Dogs don't go for it, and certainly not cats, and people are best inspired by working with them, not against them.
Surprisingly hard to remember this one as a parent.
