    1. I thought long and hard about that, and decided it might be because of all the people Death meets, only the children have the innocence not to fear him?

    2. They have no reason to fear him, yeah. And he's got a crown of laurels here too, maybe the artist's hope that these children go straight to heaven? Assuming the artist has a religious bent. There seems to be a lot more sorrow with this image too.
