Building upon many years of privately shared thoughts on the real benefits of Stoic Philosophy, Liam Milburn eventually published a selection of Stoic passages that had helped him to live well. They were accompanied by some of his own personal reflections. This blog hopes to continue his mission of encouraging the wisdom of Stoicism in the exercise of everyday life. All the reflections are taken from his notes, from late 1992 to early 2017.

Wisdom from the Early Stoics, Zeno of Citium 1
It is stated by Hecato, and by Apollonius of Tyre in his first book on Zeno of Citium, that he consulted the Oracle to know what he should do to attain the best life, and that the god's response was that he should take on the complexion of the dead. Whereupon, perceiving what this meant, he studied ancient authors.
—Diogenes Laërtius, 7.1
—All of these passages are taken from Diogenes Laërtius, Lives of the Eminent Philosophers, Book 7, translated by Robert Drew Hicks (1925)
