Building upon many years of privately shared thoughts on the real benefits of Stoic Philosophy, Liam Milburn eventually published a selection of Stoic passages that had helped him to live well. They were accompanied by some of his own personal reflections. This blog hopes to continue his mission of encouraging the wisdom of Stoicism in the exercise of everyday life. All the reflections are taken from his notes, from late 1992 to early 2017.

Meatballs: "It Just Doesn't Matter!"
As a reference for Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 10.34:
From Meatballs, directed by Ivan Reitman (1979):

Someone once told me that the New England Patriots were using books by Ryan Holiday to help their players win yet another Superbowl ring. Philosophy doesn't help you win rings, however. I could only wonder if the people involved even understood what Stoicism was actually all about, or if they even understood what life itself was actually all about.
The preference to conquer others is nothing against the necessity to conquer yourself. Show me an NFL team that came last in their Division, while still playing with honesty, decency, and courage, and I will then show you a true Stoic success story. What you really care about, and what you truly aim for, says everything about you.
