Building upon many years of privately shared thoughts on the real benefits of Stoic Philosophy, Liam Milburn eventually published a selection of Stoic passages that had helped him to live well. They were accompanied by some of his own personal reflections. This blog hopes to continue his mission of encouraging the wisdom of Stoicism in the exercise of everyday life. All the reflections are taken from his notes, from late 1992 to early 2017.

The Fixx, "Facing the Wind"
As a reference for Marcus Aurelius, Meditations 7.51:
The Fixx were always one of my guilty pleasures. Popular enough to barely make it on the charts, unpopular enough to be derided as shallow pop. I could never admit to liking their music in front of my friends in public, even as many of them admitted to liking them in private.
Facing the wind. What a glorious phrase!

Just give me something to hold on
A piece of the world
That won't go wrong
Is there somebody there
I can talk to
Somebody sharing the same view
Facing the wind
One avenue that would lead to
A place on this earth
Where we all grew
Longing for travel we stood still
Watching a sky that was once blue
Facing the wind
Each line we throw gives us false hope
One ray of light, God I can't cope
Thinking about what we all are
One human race that's gone too far
Facing the wind
